George Strait concert at Kyle Field creates traffic backups across Brazos Valley
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – The Brazos Valley has been bustling with excitement as thousands of people made their way to the George Strait concert at Kyle Field.
This led to backups on the roads all day long.
Cars could be seen in bumper-to-bumper traffic along Highway 6 and 21.
For Taylor Delleney from Tomball, he was thankful they beat the rush by driving early Saturday morning.
“We made the decision to jump up first thing in the morning, set up shop, went to Fuego and enjoyed some tacos,” he said. “My fiance is from Oklahoma State, so give her a little taste of Aggieland.”
Delleney said they were able to avoid any major trouble, but his friends who decided to come up later in the day were not as fortunate.
“They’re tied up in traffic. From 290 to 6, it’s completely locked down so we definitely made the smart decision getting up. Early bird gets the worm,” he said.
Highway 105 Westbound heading into Navasota was nearly stand-still traffic through the afternoon.

Coming into College Station, fans were met with more backups around campus on Wellborn Road, George Bush Drive, University Drive and Texas Avenue.
This level of traffic comes with some safety concerns.
“When you have a lot of people converging onto one area, there’s a lot of concerns because there’s a heightened risk for crashes or pedestrians being struck by a vehicle,” Daniel Armbruster with AAA said.
Armbruster says pedestrian safety is one of the largest concerns after the concert as the sun goes down and thousands make their way out of the stadium.
He said to put down the phone, look out for pedestrians, and pay attention to directions from law enforcement trying to guide everyone safely away from Kyle Field.
