Attendees prepare as 41@100 wraps up with Texas County legends taking the stage
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – With Lyle Lovett and Robert Earl Keen in town for a concert Thursday night to cap off the 41@100 birthday celebration and opening of the new pavilion, attendees had a lot to do before heading over for the show.
A family of three generations spent the day checking out the new spots and honoring the legacy of George H.W. Bush.
“It’s a great thing that they brought this concert tonight. It’s kind of to top off the celebration for I know today’s been a really special day for this Museum and so it’s great that we all get to celebrate together,” Jamie Brown said, joined by her son Jeffrey Brown and his grandmother, Gail Dodson. “We love Robert Earl, and we love Lyle Lovett and just to have them together. The Front Porch Song is one of my favorites and we love The Road Goes on Forever. It’s just what we’ve kind of raised Jeffrey on, with two Aggie parents we’ve raised him on Robert Earl Keen and Lyle Lovett. So it’s fun to get to see them together tonight.”
Before heading over to the concert, the family spent time around the library and the new pavilion. The family has an old connection with the Bush family, Gail shared stories with KBTX of growing up in the Bush’s hometown and even spending time around the Bush family home. She still lives in Midland, where the Bush Family home now sits as a historic site. Gail was at the library during its opening in 1997, and Jamie said experiencing the pavilion open all together was a full circle moment.
“We’re from Midland and so we’ve just been a long-time friend of the Bush family, she was here in ‘97. So today was just fun to have been watching them build this building, we live here now and our family and so yeah, just getting to take in the whole celebration has really been exciting,” she said.
“It’s a really good job of how they’ve done the train and the Marine One. It’s a very neat exhibit and you get to learn a lot of cool stuff,” Jeffrey said.
The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, doors open at 6:00 p.m. and a pre-show begins 30 minutes later. Lawn chairs are encouraged for people to bring, and food trucks will be on site.
