41@100 celebration kicks off at George H.W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – Tuesday kicked off the celebration of what would have been former President George H.W. Bush’s 100th birthday. The George and Barbara Bush Foundation, alongside the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum, is honoring the former president with several events continuing over the next two days.
Each day of 41@100 has a different focus: Alumni Day, A Day of Gratitude and Community Celebration Day.
On Alumni Day, a panel discussion with former Bush administration officials was led by the late president’s son, former Florida governor Jeb Bush.
”Their family business isn’t politics. It’s public service. And I think that this family, generation after generation, continues to prove that that’s true,” Texas A&M University President Mark Welsh said.
A Day of Gratitude will feature wreath-laying ceremonies and an exclusive book launch from Pulitzer Prize-winning author John Meacham.
While the first two days are not open to the public, Community Celebration Day is. This action-packed day is free to attend, but guests have to register in advance.
Community Celebration Day includes the grand opening of the Marine One/4141 Locomotive Pavilion, a skydiving exhibition with the Bush grandkids, cake and ice cream and a free concert featuring Texas A&M alumni Robert Earl Keen and Lyle Lovett.
These celebrations, Welsh said, all reflect back to the life and legacy of President Bush.
”They’re honoring George H.W. and Barbara Bush, who were, in my view, the best role models of all,” Welsh added.
