Officials share ways to navigate Mexico vs. Brazil game
BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – The long-awaited Mexico vs. Brazil soccer match is almost here.
It’s happening Saturday at 7:30 p.m., with kick-off at 8 p.m., and is expected to draw thousands of fans from across the world.
Whether you’ll be in the stands or not, there are a few things to remember. That’s why Debbie Albert, a Texas A&M Traffic Institute engineer, joined BVTM Friday to share how people can tackle gameday traffic.
Traffic is expected to be heavy around west campus as the Super Regional ends and the soccer match begins, according to Albert.
“Baseball may end around 4:15 p.m., 5 p.m., and the gates open to Kyle Field at 5:30,” Albert said. “That transition is going to be a really busy time.”
Other busy areas will be Wellborn Road, Texas Avenue, George Bush Drive and University Drive.
There will also be road closures starting at 2 p.m. Saturday around Kyle Field. Those include Houston Street and Joe Routt Boulevard.
“Just pay attention to your traffic app, pay attention to what’s going on around you and what the officers are telling you to do so that you can get there safely,” Albert said.
The latest traffic maps can be found here.
For those not attending the match, Albert recommends avoiding campus and taking Highway 6, Highway 47 and FM 2818.
Gameday parking is another thing to keep in mind. Albert suggests pre-purchasing parking.
On-campus parking will range from $25 to $40, according to transportation officials. In addition, there will be street parking in neighborhoods around Kyle Field for $25.

The City of Bryan is also offering a free shuttle service and will have parking available at the Roy Kelly Garage.

Ahead of the match, there will be a Fútbol Fiesta at Kyle Field starting at 4:30 p.m. It’ll include music, food and activities for kids and adults.
“It’s a very interactive environment and then preparing for the big match,” said Pablo Zarate, vice president of International Properties for MLS/SUM.
He said the match has been a long time in the making.
“The excitement is there,” Zarate said. “This is a very important rivalry in Mexico and Brazil. They have faced off in several World Cups. This is another opportunity, a big clash. It’s going to be very, very interesting.”
The energy around Texas A&M has been building for a while and Texas A&M officials are excited for the match to happen, according to Kindra Fry, Texas A&M’s assistant athletic director for special events.
“We are ready,” Fry said. “Kyle Field does not look like normal Kyle Field right now, so it’s exciting. There’s lots of color, and there’s a soccer field. It’s just amazing.”
