College Station man accused of killing grandfather and brother facing capital murder charge
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – New details are emerging about a shooting spree inside a home in College Station last month near a city park. However, it’s still unclear what provoked Mike Anthony Epperson to allegedly kill two of his family members, and wounding a third, before fleeing the city.
Police say Mike Anthony Epperson, 19, shot and killed his grandfather, Seferino Aleman, and his brother, Isaac Garcia, on Thursday night, May 23rd.
A third family member, Joseph Aleman, Epperson’s uncle, was also shot but survived.
The shooting was reported just before 10 p.m. at a duplex on Colgate Drive across from Wolf Pen Creek Park.
According to an arrest report obtained by KBTX, Epperson asked to borrow the keys to Joseph’s car and returned inside the home with a firearm that was in the car. For an unknown reason, Epperson began firing the weapon at his family members, striking both his grandfather and brother in the chest. He shot his uncle in the arm.
Three other family members in the home, including two juveniles, were not harmed.
One of them heard Epperson say “They are chasing me” while he was firing the gun, said the police report. When asked who was chasing him, he never responded.
Epperson then took his uncle’s car and fled to Killeen where he was found and taken into custody.
Epperson was transferred back to Brazos County and remains in jail charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and one count of Capital Murder of Multiple Persons. His bond is set at $3 million.
“Our thoughts go out to the family and friends of the deceased’s family. Our Victim Service’s Coordinator has also been working with the family to help provide resources and support as they navigate through this tragedy,” said College Station Police Department Spokesman Officer David Simmons.
