In God’s Hands Ministry of Burleson County – Food Pantry holds fundraising event
CALDWELL, Texas (KBTX) – Spaghetti, salad and peach cobbler were on the menu at the VFW 4458 in Caldwell on Friday thanks to the In God’s Hands Ministry of Burleson County – Food Pantry.
The meal was $12, which was part of the food pantry’s fundraising event. Melinda Palicka, the facility director said raising funds is important to keep the pantry running since it is not affiliated with churches or other entities. They do receive donations from the Brazos Valley Food and the KBTX Food for Families Food Drive, but these additional funds help with lights, gas, dumpsters and further bills.
In April, God’s Hands served 353 households and 857 individuals. Since October of last year, they say they averaged about 300 households and over 500 individuals per month. They also continue to see a steady growth of new clients.
Those who can’t donate monetarily, and who still want to help can do so in other ways as well.
“We don’t need necessarily money it would be nice but if you have canned goods that’s good to me, because we ran out of food these last two months because of everyone we served,” Palicka said.
Anyone looking to donate to the pantry can call them to set up a time.
“We have people who come from Austin, Bastrop, Snook, Onalaska, and Somerville,” Palicka said. “Our borders are not closed. We feel that if you come to us where we are and you want food we are going to give you food and the requirements are very minimal, I don’t ask for proof of anything, just show up.”
Palicka said the pantry also serves fresh produce and things such as milk, cheese, and meat.
“If you come to us and get what little or whatever we can give you, you don’t have to buy that you can use it for medicine, you can use it for gas or your light bill to me it’s just a helping hand,” Palicka said.
