Officials: Two jailers attacked by inmate in Burleson County
CALDWELL, Texas (KBTX) – Two county jailers were injured Thursday on the job following an attack by an inmate, according to the Burleson County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident happened just before 4 p.m. at the Burleson County jail when officials say inmate Debione Renfro was asked to return to his cell by jailers.
That’s when he reportedly began attacking two jailers, causing them both to fall to the ground, striking their heads against concrete walls.
Deputies say Renfro, who was already in jail on a charge of assaulting an elderly person, also was trying to disarm the jailers of their tasers during the assault.
Both Jailers were transported to the hospital via ambulance. One of the jailers suffered a concussion and the other jailer is currently waiting for scans.
Renfro was charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Public Servant and Taking or Attempting to Take a Weapon from a Peace Officer.
A mug shot of Renfro was not immediately available.
