Iola ISD parents speak out about HVAC issues, solutions discussed
IOLA, Texas (KBTX) – Students and staff at Iola ISD were left without working air conditioning in multiple buildings for around a month.
Now that school’s out for the summer, district officials said they’re working toward a more permanent fix.
”It gives us a little time to be able to work in classrooms without students in there. The third-party contract will give us an evaluation of what we need to replace and going into next year. Hopefully, every unit will be up and working,” Superintendent Jeff Dyer said.
The elementary school cafeteria and ag building were two of the buildings affected by the outage.
Dyer said the small district doesn’t have a dedicated person for HVAC maintenance, which can cause delays in repairs.
Some parents voiced their concerns about the conditions students and staff have had to endure in the meantime.
”I feel like it is not too much to ask to make sure that they have air conditioning when they are in their building actually trying to teach the kid,” Iola ISD parent Heather Tackett said.
Iola ISD is currently taking bids from HVAC contractors to prevent this issue from happening in the future.
