Investigation continues in College Station double homicide, neighbors speak up
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – Traffic on State Highway 6 South near William J Bryan Parkway was backed up Friday as the College Station Police Department searched for evidence that may be connected to the previous night’s double homicide.
Two people were killed and one person was injured in a shooting that happened Thursday night in front of a duplex located across the street from Wolf Pen Creek Park. Michael Epperson, 19, was arrested in connection with the shooting after fleeing to Bell County.
Neighborhood residents said it’s an uncomfortable situation because they think of the area as a safe neighborhood.
“We walk the dog here every day. There’s a park nearby, there’s lots of people, lots of folks around. Kids and families and whatnot,” Kaiwen Wong, who lives nearby, said.
Another neighbor is concerned about the potential financial impacts.
“I come to check if everything is okay. I hope it’s not any of my tenants to get killed. It looks like it’s okay for us, but this area, we consider as peace, quiet area,” Duan Liu, who owns a neighboring duplex, said.
Liu’s duplex is located near the scene of the shooting. He rents out one unit and lists the other on AirBnB. He’s concerned for the safety of his tenants, and the lasting impact of the incident.
“It will bring that business down, right? It will be less guests,” he added.
Meanwhile, Wang is adjusting his daily routine. He said he feels safe at the park during the daytime, but is wary of when the sun goes down.
“I’ll definitely be more careful and avoid certain, maybe after 8 don’t come out or something like that,” he said.
KBTX has reached out to the College Station Police Department several times for updates. They declined to comment further while the investigation is ongoing.
