Bryan firefighters honored at 100 Club annual banquet in Houston

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Members of the Bryan Fire Department were honored Tuesday night at the 70th annual Heroes Awards event hosted by the 100 Club in Houston.

Firefighters Jesse Prihoda, Brett Carsey, John Lubanski, Jason Oechsle, and James Stewart were recognized for high-angle rescues that saved two lives.

One incident happened on June 15th, 2023 when a man became unconscious 250 to 300 feet up on a communications tower.

The other happened on April 11, 2023, when a man became trapped in a tree after being struck by a branch that injured his pelvis and legs.

Both men were safely brought back to the ground and survived.

The 100 Club is a citizen-funded non-profit organization that began in 1953 and provides immediate financial assistance to the dependent families of law enforcement officers and firefighters who are killed or seriously injured in the line of duty.
