New Tabor Brethren Church holds fundraiser to rebuild after fire
CALDWELL, Texas (KBTX) – The New Tabor Brethren Church held a fundraiser Saturday to rebuild their church after the historic building went up in flames in January.
The church set out to sell 400 tickets for the event and ended up selling nearly 700.
“God just keeps moving on people’s hearts, and it’s just been amazing,” pastor David Johnson said.
Despite the loss of the 100-year-old building, Johnson said he’s excited for the rebuilding process to begin.
“Change brings challenge, and this congregation is up for it,” he added.
Attendees were treated to dinner, auctions, raffles, live music and dancing.
It was more than just the congregation of New Tabor Brethren Church that showed up to support its rebuilding efforts.
“The fact that people from all different denominations have come to our aid and have supported us is just heartwarming,” organizer and secretary of the church’s board of elders Susan Skrabanek said.
For her, rebuilding the church hits especially close to home. Born and raised in the community, Skrabanek said it’s the only church she’s ever known.
“I was baptized there and confirmed there, married there, raised my child there,” she said.
She wants to preserve the church’s legacy for its future congregation.
“To know that I’m gonna have a part in building something for my granddaughter and the future generations of New Tabor Brethren Church members and this community is a wonderful feeling,” Skrabanek said.
The church has brought on an architect to begin designing its new space.
