Local law enforcement participates in Torch Run for Special Olympics

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Area law enforcement officers and more than a dozen other agencies took part in the annual Torch Run Thursday.

This is an effort by law enforcement to shed more light on the Special Olympics Summer Games in San Antonio.

“We’re bringing awareness that Special Olympics is happening this week, it’s the big state summer games,” said Lt. Jason James with the Bryan Police Department.

Thursday was also an opportunity to share with the public about Tip-a-Cop. The 2024 event is being planned and is scheduled to take place in July.

At last year’s event, more than $50,000 was raised and the hope is to top that number during this year’s event.

“A grassroots effort fundraiser we provide security for Special Olympics so it’s really a joint effort,” added James.

After the group left Bryan they also ran in Brenham, Belleville and Columbus before ending at Morgan’s Wonderland in San Antonio — the site of the Special Olympics Summer Games.
