Scotty’s House on summer child care safety
BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Summertime is almost upon us, and while kiddos get out of school, some parents and guardians will likely have to continue work.
April Theiss with Scotty’s House said that talking about safety tips with your child is the first step.
“Talk to them about what to expect there. Learn their counselor’s names, and things like that. Learn to stick with a buddy. Always have a buddy system in place for summer camps,” she said.
If kids are spending time alone and they have internet access, Theiss said to have honest conversations about online safety.
“Kids don’t even realize what they’re doing is online because everything just is nowadays online. Every app, everything they do, even their TV, is connected to the Internet. Just having a conversation with them, ‘Here are the risks. Here’s what could possibly happen’,” she said.
