Homeowner shot in Washington County after confronting vehicle burglary suspect

BURTON, Texas (KBTX) – A homeowner near Burton in Washington County was shot early Thursday morning by a man suspected of breaking into a vehicle in the driveway.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office says the incident happened around 3 a.m. in the 6300 block of Rehburg Road.

Deputies say the homeowner walked outside and that’s when the suspect shot him.

The homeowner was taken to a College Station hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect took off in a pickup truck parked on Rehburg Road.

An area-wide search is being conducted by deputies and assisting law enforcement agencies. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division and the Texas Rangers are currently investigating the case. Crime Stoppers is offering a $5,000.00 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) involved.
