Chamber heading to D.C. with Action Plan, sharing Brazos Valley needs with congressional leaders
BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Leaders from across Bryan and College Station are headed to Washington D.C. where they’ll share local needs with members of Congress.
This is a unique trip that BCS Chamber of Commerce President, Glen Brewer, says they have participated in for decades.
“It’s been over 20 years that we’ve been taking a delegation from Bryan College Station business to Washington DC when we go there we know we will get in front of we will go to the offices and meet with all 38 of our representatives from the state of Texas in the House of Representatives and our two senators,” he said.
This year, the group will be focusing on local issues like expanding access to higher education, ensuring transportation needs are met for a thriving business community and much more.
“[National leaders] want to know what our wants and needs here locally and we’re looking for initiatives that support some areas of economic development. Obviously, healthcare, higher education, transportation mobility and infrastructure. Transportation is always a big topic and we’ve been successful there in the past,” he said.
Brewer will be joined by 35 local leaders to help get those points across in Washington.
“When you have volunteers that want to band together and go up and walk in every office and put [our plan] on every desk and tell them what the citizens and businesses in Bryan College Station want, I think it’s a powerful message and it’s usually very well received,” he said.
Topics the group plans to discuss are economic development and fiscal responsibility, healthcare, transportation, mobility and infrastructure plus higher education and workforce training.
They will arrive in Washington D.C. on Monday. Over the next week, KBTX will be following the group around Washington and diving deeper into some of the group’s talking points.
