St. Joseph doctor shares illnesses circulating in the region

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) -Dr. Jeffrey Lee with St. Joseph Health in College Station says several viral illnesses are spreading in our community.

Your kids may be experiencing a rash that follows an upper respiratory infection. He says this is a common symptom he is seeing right now.

“We’ve also had some hand, foot and mouth here and there,” Dr. Lee said.

Another illness circulating is strep throat.

He said there are things you can do to help stop the spread.

“Hand washing is always very important,” Dr. Lee said. “You always want to wash your hands. I think that’s one of the best ways to prevent spreading of viral illness and bacterial illness. Making sure to cover our faces when we cough so ‘Dracula’ coughing. Also just trying to avoid people that are sick.”

One thing Dr. Lee said is a good idea to watch out for is dehydration. He says kids can easily become dehydrated and this can be serious for children.
