Free Music Friday: Joey McGee
BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Singer-songwriter Joey McGee described himself as southern Creole Cajun who builds on Americana tradition by walking trails his forebears blaze, but branching off to forge his own paths.
He is playing Blackwater Draw on Friday, and he said that the gig is a little different than his normal show.
“A lot of times I play solo, you know, and as a duo. But tonight I’ll have my full band so it’ll be a a rock’n’roll experience,” said McGee.
The song he played, “How to Stay Calm in a World About to Blow,” began, he said, as a poem.
“It’s kind of in the chaos of what’s going on in the world, when we are present with the people we love or, people we like and just taking care of things here and now. The stuff of social media. It tends to dissipate,” McGee said.
The show tonight at Blackwater Draw begins at 6:30 p.m.
