Focus at Four: Brazos County Emergency Management discusses flooding, road closures
BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Another round of heavy rain swept through the area early Thursday, and it’s been causing problems all across the Brazos Valley.
Michele Meade, the Brazos County Emergency Management Coordinator, joined First News at Four today to discuss how it has affected the community.
Meade said that our area has luckily gotten hit less aggressively than places like Walker and San Jacinto Counties.
“We’re very lucky to not receive some of the heavier rainfall totals that we’re seeing throughout the region and in other parts of the state. That really minimized a lot of response that was needed in other parts of the state that we did not see needed here,” she said.
Meade said they have been in communication with the Brazos Valley River Authority, since now the biggest concern is Lake Limestone and the releases due to rainfall.
“Most of the water that’s released from Limestone generally takes about two days to get here. And so we already have flood conditions on the Navasota we are going to see major flood stage within the next couple of days,” she said.
Meade said
“It’s necessary for all families, for all types of hazards. We need to do and take the time to do those preparations. Having an alternate place to go if you need to evacuate from your home for any reason. Having a kit that you can just pick up and take with you if you have to leave your home in a hurry. Including for those four-legged friends,” she said.
In a statement, the Brazos County Office of Emergency Management had this message for drivers and home owners.
The following roads are showing to be closed due to flood waters:
Peach Creek at Sulphur Springs Rd.
Democrat Rd at Navasota River
