Focus at Four: Madison County Emergency Management discusses aftermath of storms
BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Severe storms made their way across the Brazos Valley last night causing road closures, damage and even school closings and delays.
This is now the third wettest April in our 142 years of record keeping in the Bryan College Station area.
Some areas like Madison County even saw tornado threats.
Shelly Butts, the Madison County Emergency Management Coordinator, said they are fortunate the damage wasn’t worse.
“We were very lucky. We haven’t lost any lives. We mostly had damage with limbs and trees and that sort of debris. We haven’t had any loss of any homes as far as has been reported thus far either,” she said.
The roadways are still something Butts said they are concerned about.
“We have some bridges that the areas around the culverts have been washed away. We’ve got just some very poor road conditions on some of our county roads just from sitting in that water and that moving water going through those culverts,” she said.
Butts recommended signing up for alerts from the city as a way to ensure you stay informed.
“We have special messaging that we send out also in addition to the regular weather alerts that come through the system,” she said.
