DPS shares new details about crash that killed Somerville High School student
BURLESON COUNTY, Texas (KBTX) – The Texas Department of Public Safety has shared new information about a two-vehicle crash Monday in Burleson County that claimed the life of a Somerville High School student.
The wreck occurred around 6 a.m. along SH 36 near County Road 122.
Nicole Bosquez, 17, was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Malibu southbound on Highway 36 when her vehicle was struck by the driver of a 2014 Dodge pickup in the northbound lanes. Troopers say the pickup truck driver failed to stay in a single lane and struck the Chevrolet Malibu.
Nicole was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash by Burleson County Justice of the Peace Dusty Tittle.
Also in the vehicle with Nicole were her siblings, a 10-year-old girl and a 7-year-old boy who were taken to St. Joseph Hospital in Bryan. A 6-year-old boy was taken to a Houston hospital with serious injuries. Their mother, Aleasah Bosquez, 41, of Caldwell, who was also in the vehicle, was taken to St. Joseph in Bryan.
Aleasah is an employee of Somerville ISD and the younger kids attend Somerville Elementary School. Her daughter, Nicole, was a senior at Somerville High School.
On Monday, the Somerville school district announced that counselors were on hand at the schools to provide support to anyone who needs it.
“Please keep the Bosquez family, as well as the many students and staff members who will continue to be impacted by this tragic news, in your thoughts and prayers,” said Superintendent Eric Holton.
The driver of the pickup truck wasn’t injured, according to DPS.
Troopers say this is an ongoing investigation and no additional information including the pickup truck driver’s name is available for release at this time.
