Homegrown at Northgate returns to College Station
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – Visitors and locals alike had the opportunity to walk around the Northgate Entertainment District on Sunday to see what the community has to offer.
It was for Visit College Station’s Homegrown at Northgate Festival with vendors set up along Patricia Street Promenade and College Main. This year there were over 50 vendors who took part in the festival selling all kinds of items such as jewelry, freeze-dried candy, jams, and much more. The free event even featured live music as well as various food trucks for those in attendance to grab a bite to eat. There was also face painting and bounce houses for the kids.
Visit College Station’s event coordinator, Casey Barone said the yearly event is a way to close out Texas A&M’s Family Weekend and give visitors a reason to stick around a bit longer.
“With it being such a big weekend, Family Weekend, it really does help with extra people coming into town and really gives these vendors a little bit more income I would think to be successful and get their name out to people who don’t know about them,” Barone said.
One vendor at the festival, Mike Kasper, said his coffee business, Rockdale Coffee, is entirely online, so events like the festival help him showcase what he has to offer.
“It gives me exposure, it gets me out to people who have never seen me before. A lot of people aren’t going to go on the internet and order things and they’d rather see you in person. And actually I get to sample my coffee and the best thing I get to do for a sale is put it in their hands,” Kasper said.
Barone said the festival allows people to see Northgate in a different way instead of just the nightlife that is known for.
