Free Music Friday: Jordan Nix
BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Critically acclaimed songwriter, Jordan Nix is from Buffalo and got his start right here in College Station.
He released his sophomore album “DIRGE” last fall, and joined First News at Four for this week’s Free Music Friday.
He said that he got the itch for music after moving here in town.
“I moved to College Station probably seven or eight years ago, and I had grown up playing in church. But when I got here, I kind of got into songwriting and wanted to try out playing other places like coffee shops and churches,” he said.
Nix said his sophomore album, Dirge, was written almost like an accident.
“I was sitting at my buddy Dalton’s kitchen table brainstorming our next record, and we ended up just tracking it at his kitchen table, and at an Airbnb in Kansas,” he said.
Nix said the song he performed for us, Blue Bird, was born out of motherly worry.
“That’s the last song on Dirge, and Dirge means sad songs. But Blue Birds is a hopeful song. My mom got tired of me writing sad songs and she said ‘I need a happy song to share with my friends on Facebook.’ So Blue Bird was kind of the response to my mom wanting me to write something more hopeful,” he said.
