St. Joseph Catholic Church holds Easter service

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – On Sunday St. Joseph Catholic Church worshiped God and Jesus Christ at their Christ the Good Shepherd Chapel in Bryan.

Last week the church had to hold its masses leading up to Easter at the chapel after a wooden beam fell from the ceiling of its main building. However, the chapel is where the church normally holds its Easter Services.

The church held a service at sunrise at 7 a.m. followed by two other services at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Eiler said celebrating at sunrise stems from the idea that Jesus is the light of the world shining in the darkness just like how the sun turns night into day.

“Jesus Christ has risen today. This is what we celebrate, and we have been celebrating the things leading up to that and that is the reality of his death, which means we as people reject God and Jesus has come and offered himself in our place so that we may have freedom from sin and freedom from death,” Eilers said.

Eiler says as they work to make sure the church’s main building is safe, Sunday services will be held at the chapel.

“We are very blessed to have this church even though we are not able to use our church probably for a couple of weeks at least,” Eiler said.

Eiler said that on Saturday night they were able to baptize seven people.

“It’s a big celebration for us because we get to celebrate their baptisms and we get to welcome people to the church to the sacraments to the fullness of life of the church,” Eiler said.
