Brazos Valley businesses invited to lunch to learn about fraud prevention

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Brazos Valley banks say check fraud is an increasing problem in the community.

First Financial Bank told KBTX they’re seeing a lot of bad actors washing checks, meaning people are taking checks, lifting off the ink and replacing it with new information that will benefit them.

First Financial learned other banks in the area are seeing similar issues.

“We brought several of our local banks together, along with the FBI and along with the postal inspectors, to share with them what we were experiencing, how much of it we were seeing and the detriment that it’s causing our customers and the financial institutions here locally,” said Austin Bryan with First Financial Bank.

To help Brazos Valley businesses be aware of these potential dangers, First Financial Bank is hosting an informational lunch. It’s happening Thursday, March 28 at Cooper’s Old Time Pit Bar-B-Que on Earl Rudder Fwy South in College Station. The event is from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Lunch will be provided.

To attend the lunch, RSVP to Maisie Garcia at mgarcia@ffin.com or 979-260-0437.
