Local law enforcement agencies sign onto letter in support of SB4
BRAZOS COUNTY, Texas (KBTX) – Local law enforcement officials signed onto a letter for Gov Greg Abbott voicing their support for Senate Bill 4.
The letter was drafted by the Sheriffs’ Association of Texas and sent it to the governor on Wednesday.
Nearly 50 law enforcement officials signed the letter in support, including signatures from sheriffs in Brazos, Robertson and Washington counties.
The letter urges the governor to declare the state of the border as a ‘United States Constitutional Crisis’ and ‘Crimes Against Humanity,’ calling on the federal government to swiftly secure the Texas border.
A spokesperson for the Brazos County Sheriff’s Office said they signed on because they feel it’s important for Texas to protect its borders.
However, the law is still not in effect.
“If the law eventually goes into effect, we’ll look to our local prosecutors for guidance on what cases they believe meet the elements of the crime,” Brazos County Sheriff Wayne Dicky said.
The letter was published to Facebook Thursday.
