Weekend Gardener: Root maintenance on container-grown trees
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – There are lots of trees available to plant right now, including many that are potted and container-grown.
There’s some root maintenance to keep in mind before you plant them.
Tim Hartmann with Texas A&M; AgriLife demonstrated how to complete the process.
“This is a bit of an exaggerated example. This poor tree has been in the pot for probably three years, but for some trees, especially if they have looked like they’re a little bit large for the pot, the roots can sometimes start circling when they’ve been in there too long,” said Hartmann.
You can watch it above in the video player to see how he trims the roots.
