Community mourns the loss of former Bryan Mayor Mark Conlee
BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) -The City of Bryan is mourning the loss of former Bryan Mayor Mark Conlee.
Conlee passed Monday night after a lengthy illness.
He was elected to the Bryan City Council as the Single Member District Four Councilmember on May 15, 2004, to fill an unexpired term created by the resignation of another Councilmember to run for Mayor.
He was then elected to a full three-year term on the City Council, again representing Single Member District Four, on May 7, 2005.
Conlee was elected Mayor for a full three-year term on May 12, 2007.
Some of the major accomplishments of the City under his Mayoral tenure include:
Approval of an interlocal agreement with Brazos County, City of College Station and Texas A&M University for the operation of a joint Community Emergency Operations Center that is still in operation today.City of Bryan approval to acquire property in Grimes County jointly with the City of College Station for the Twin Oaks Landfill project.The City of Bryan was designated as a Preserve America Community.Bryan Fire Station Number Five was opened on March 31, 2009.The City of Bryan-Brazos County Economic Development Foundation was created.The Bryan Public Library was renamed as the Clara B. Mounce Public Library.The bid was awarded for the construction of HSC Parkway extension.The location of the TAMU System Health Science Center in Bryan. Mayor Conlee was presented with a remembrance from the construction site in recognition of his tireless efforts to bring the HSC campus to Bryan.
