KBTX weather team going head-to-head in KinderHill’s Spring Fling beer collaboration
BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – It’ll be a battle of the brews Saturday at KinderHill Brew Lab.
The biergarten is hosting its 3rd Annual Spring Fling, which will feature the KBTX weather team beer competition.
It’ll be different this year with the guys and the ladies teaming up.
Meteorologists Kayleigh Thomas and Berkeley Taylor created the 100% Chance of Sour. It’s a blackberry cobbler beer with blackberry, Tahitian vanilla bean and cinnamon.
“Tastes like a sour, tart blackberry cobbler,” co-owner Jason Kinderman said.
Meteorologists Max Crawford and Shel Winkley crafted the Peach Better Have My Sunny. It’s a peach cream ale made with peach puree, Tahitian vanilla and the bases of cream ale.
“Really light, drinkable, great for the warm weather,” co-owner Laura Hill said.
Both teams have been working on their beers for about a month.
“A lot of time for fermentation and the idea and all that,” Hill said.
Along with the beers, the teams have worked with chef Tanner Purdum, the owner of The Wild Garlic, to create pizzas for the day.
Thomas and Taylor created the Girl Dinner pizza, which is like a charcuterie board on a pizza, according to Purdum.
It has prosciutto, romano cheese, olive oil, pear, pickled onions and a raspberry balsamic drizzle on top.
Crawford and Winkley created the Brunch is for the Boys pizza. It’s a take on biscuits and gravy, according to Purdum.
The pizza has sausage gravy, chopped jalapenos, chives and hollandaise drizzle.
“Super unique pizzas,” Purdum said. “I think they’re both very different in a good way.”
In addition to the pizzas and beers, the event will feature vendors, cake walks and raffles.
This will be the last Spring Fling at KinderHill’s current location.
“We’ll be leaving here at the end of April and opening up in the fall, so we’ll have a little break so if you wanna come see us before we move then now’s the perfect time,” Hill said.
The new location will be on West 31st Street in Bryan.
