Circle Star Firearms and Outdoors holds St. Porktrick’s Day Hog Hunt
ANDERSON, Texas (KBTX) – People were hunting down hogs all for a good cause during the St. Porktrick’s Day Hog Hunt on Saturday.
Circle Star Firearms and Outdoors in Anderson held the hunt which began on Friday and went through Sunday. The main event was on Saturday. It’s a statewide hog hunting competition that the Circle Star Firearms and Outdoors owners said helps to put a dent in the local wild hog population that causes property damage. Depending on how well teams do, they win money.
This was the event’s sixth year. Jake Cawthon, one of the owners said every year they pick a charity or organization to raise funds for and this year it was the Anderson Volunteer Fire Department. Those funds will help the department pay for new brush trucks and firefighting apparatus.
“It’s expensive and they’re a volunteer fire department they don’t have, they do make some money through some ways, but a lot of it comes from donations and this will go a long way in helping them with their operational fund pay for their equipment and come to the aid of the citizens of grimes county whenever they need them,” Cawthon said.
The event also featured a raffle, hourly gun giveaways, food and live music.
“It’s a celebration right,” Cawthon said. “This is our chance to come out interact with our community, interact with our customers, get out from behind the counter and just have a really good time and have fun. That’s what its supposed to be about,” Cawthon said.
