Bryan College Station Chamber of Commerce holds Shrimp Boil

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – The smell of boiled shrimp filled the air of the Brazos County Expo Center Friday night as the 26th Shrimp Boil got underway.

However, the event hosted by the Bryan College Station Chamber of Commerce isn’t normally a shrimp boil, and in all of its previous years, it has been all about crawfish. A bad crawfish harvest brought on this year’s change. Still, it didn’t stop the chamber from throwing its annual event.

Even with crawfish off this year’s menu, there was still boiled shrimp, fried shrimp, corn on the cob, sausage, french fries, potatoes, and more.

The boil raises money for 4H and FFA students participating in the Brazos County Youth Livestock Show.

“All the proceeds from this event will go towards the auction next week to support the kids up there after the livestock show. Hopefully, buy some of their projects to help support their future, so we’re really excited about that,” Taylor Hughes with the chamber said.

BCS Chamber of Commerce President Glen Brewer said despite the big change, a lot of people came and out and the chamber had no plans to let the youth at the livestock go without any money.

“We were built on Agriculture here in the Brazos County and Brazos Valley. The 4H and FFA students are the future here,” Brewer said. “If we didn’t have the event a top 20 buyer would be gone so we’re so excited everyone did come they love the shrimp it’s been a successful evening and it’s just been a lot of fun.”

With a successful new way of their annual boil, Brewer thinks there might be some changes in store for next year.

“People have been saying that they love the shrimp so much I think we’re thinking next year we will do both,” Brewer said. “The whole thing is great to have fun, but its all for a good cause and it doesn’t get better than that.”
