Strong storms rock Austin county, causing damage in Bellville
BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – A little afternoon sunshine and a weak cold front was all that was needed to spark up strong thunderstorms across the southern reaches of the Brazos Valley Friday.
While central portions of the area (including most of B/CS) was spared from any severe weather Friday, some residents in Bellville had a brief “hailpack” along with some car, tree, and structure damage thanks to hail and wind that ripped through the town late Friday afternoon.
The hail was so heavy and large that it covered the ground for a good half hour after the storm passed, almost looking as if the town had received a blanket of snow. Temperatures dropped almost 20 degrees thanks to the hailstorm, a PinPoint Weather watcher who was in Bellville at the time said.
Officials in Austin county said electric crews will be working through the evening to restore power, with estimated restoration at some point before sunrise Saturday. No injuries were reported.
Hail core DUMPED on top of Bellville & Austin County.
Strong winds also managed to break some tree limbs (likely already weak/dead since no leaves have budded by this point)
