New Hearne ISD stadium unveiled to the public
HEARNE, Texas (KBTX) – Hearne ISD unveiled their brand new Eagle Stadium at a ribbon cutting ceremony Monday.
The $2.2 million project broke ground last August.
“It moved very fast,” said Jay Davis, the executive director of operations for Hearne ISD.
Wood Field will be used for football, soccer, track and field, band and youth sports. Davis says you could really see excitement in the students’ eyes at the ceremony.
“You could see when they were out there taking their pictures and when they ran onto the stadium and the soccer players getting ready for the first game on this field, just the excitement in their eyes,” said Davis.
Soccer player Omar Gonzalez says the team is excited play back at home on the renovated field.
“Overall it just means a lot for us as soccer players to be able to play on this field, especially after many years of having a really bad field which would flood all the time. A lot of holes were on it. So, just looking around, seeing this, it’s a really big moment for all of us,” said Gonzalez.
The team’s first home game on the field was against Cameron Monday evening.
“Hopefully this will grow our athletics, and our band and all of the programs within our school, that more and more kids are wanting to come out and be in those programs,” said Davis.
