State Rep. District 14 up for voters to decide
AUSTIN, Texas (KBTX) – Two candidates are vying for the Republican nomination for State Representative District 14, and voters will decide on Tuesday.
Current Rep. John Raney (R), announced he would not be seeking reelection. Now, those voting on the Republican ballot will choose between Republicans Rick Davis and Paul Dyson to represent them in Austin.
District 14 covers a large portion of Brazos County, including Bryan and College Station.
School vouchers were a popular topic for voters and leaders in Austin. Both candidates say they support funding public education but highlight a push for parent choice.
“I am not at all against public schools. I had an excellent primary education in Fort Bend Independent School District and all six of our children were well prepared for Texas A&M by the College Station Independent School District but I do favor the freedom that would come with [school vouchers],” Davis said.
“We need to make sure our public schools stay strong, we need to make sure they have the funding they need. We also need to make sure that local control is returned to them, and at the same time, we need to recognize that there are parents that want more parental choice options,” Dyson said.
KBTX has full interviews with Davis and Dyson. Voters have until 7 p.m. Tuesday to be in line before polls close.
On the Democratic ballot, Fred Medina is running unopposed for the party’s District 14 representative.
