Meet the Candidate: Maritza Sifuentez-Chavarria – Brazos County District Attorney
BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Election Day is less than one week away and one race Brazos County voters will see on their ballot is District Attorney.
Jarvis Parsons currently holds the role and is running for reelection. He only has one challenger: Maritza Sifuentez-Chavarria.
She joined News 3 at Six on Wednesday to discuss why she believes she should be elected.
“Law enforcement, they actually approached me, different people in the community, different law enforcement from different agencies, and there are some fractures and there are some improvements that we can make and knowing that and knowing that we have the growth we have in 2060, there’s just no way we can sustain that without those improvements so I am just going to get in there,” Sifuentez-Chavarria said. “My kids are from here, my husbands from here, and I am not going anywhere. When there are things that have to be fixed, I have to do something about it.”
Sifuentez-Chavarria spent some time serving as an Assistant District Attorney under Jarvis Parsons. She says that experience will help her if elected.
“I learned so much. I really think that experience I had from him {Jarvis Parsons}, I can take my past and I’m able to use that to lead us into the future,” Sifuentez-Chavarria said. “I learned a lot of, not just trial preparation, but being in trial and what that meant. However, my experience from that point, I was able to continue it, my journey continued. I am board-certified in criminal law. I am able to take what I did before, take what I have now, and use that to take our entire team into the future. We are moving. We are changing. Society is changing. What we learned about jurors is they change, quickly. Their standards change.”
