Sul Ross Elementary students celebrate Black History Month

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Students at Sul Ross Elementary School celebrated Black History Month in style Friday.

During the event, kids got to show off what they learned about Black history by reciting speeches and performing routines.

“Last year was good but we wanted better this year, so we just decided to invite parents. The teachers came even harder than last year, it was really nice,” said 4th-grade teacher, Jadlyn Colvin.

Friday morning students dressed up as different historical figures. Educators said this was a fun way to keep students engaged.

”One of our traits in Bryan is tolerance, just accepting and loving one another for who we are and learning about each other,” said Sul Ross Elementary Principal, Danielle Legg.

Legg added the school plans to implement the same idea to Hispanic Heritage Month to represent other cultures in the future.
