Meet the Candidate: Johnny Lopez – Robertson County Sheriff
ROBERTSON COUNTY, Texas (KBTX) -Early voting begins Tuesday. One race Robertson County voters will see on their ballot is County Sheriff.
All six candidates will appear on News 3 at Six before election day on March 5.
Gerald Yezak has held the position since 1996, but he is not running for reelection. Six candidates are vying for the position: Karen Box, Rip Brown, Johnny Lopez, Bill Ruland, S.A. Smith and Miguel Vasquez.
Lopez joined News 3 at Six on Monday to discuss why he believes he’s the right man for the job.
“I started my career back in 1994, started in the jail under Sheriff Bobby Riggs,” Lopez said. “With my experience and my maturity, just want to continue my service and hoping the voters elect me in as their next sheriff.”
He says he wants to use the resources the county has to respect taxpayers.
“We can always use more resources but we are going to have to go through and utilize what we have to make that work,” Lopez said. “That’s where I’m going through and just putting what we have for now because we want to not stress the taxpayers.”
He says he wants to strategically place officers in the county to improve response times and more efficiently use the resources the county has.
