Bryan ISD leaders meet to discuss annual report, budget realignment , and academic calendar

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) -Bryan ISD leaders met Monday to consider and discuss the district’s annual report, tackling crucial aspects such as realigning the annual budget and shaping the academic calendar for the upcoming school year and more.

Annual Report

In a comprehensive review, school officials affirm that testing scores within Bryan ISD are in line with comparable districts across the state. The annual report delves into various student information rates, encompassing economically disadvantaged, emergent bilingual, at-risk, and mobile students. Additionally, Starr Testing scores in Reading, Math, Science, and Social Studies were meticulously compared with state averages and benchmarks from Bastrop, Duncanville, New Caney, Tyler, and Waco Independent School Districts.

Bryan ISD stands out positively, surpassing the state average in graduation rates and excelling in various key areas compared to comparable districts.

Barbara Ybarra, the Associate Superintendent of Teaching and Lessons, expressed satisfaction, stating, “We outperformed the state in graduation rates and also outperformed our comparable groups in a number of areas and so we; ‘re pleased with the progress of our students and staff want to keep that momentum moving forward,”

Budget Realignment & Alignment of Fiscal Start Dates

District leaders also greenlit the realignment of the school’s budget to synchronize more closely with the academic year. This strategic move is anticipated to enhance planning and decision-making for the school year ahead.

Kevin Beesaw, the Assistant Superintendent of Business Services, explained the rationale behind the decision, stating, “The school district opens and classes start in August so you’re trying to close your year-end at the same time the school is opening,”

2024-2025 Academic Calendar

The board unanimously approved Option 2, a decision influenced by community input. The district engaged the community, students, parents, and staff in the decision-making process earlier this year, receiving a substantial response. Approximately 4,000 individuals participated in the survey, with 65% of all votes favoring Option 2 for the 2024-2025 academic calendar.

According to school officials, the breakdown of support includes 67% of the community, 68% of students, 58% of parents, and 72% of staff. This collective consensus reflects a majority endorsement for Option 2, shaping the upcoming academic calendar.
