Fans are thrilled for aggie baseball’s return to the diamond

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – January 16th and 17th marked the opening weekend for Aggie Baseball with the second game of the season on Saturday.

Despite temperatures being in their forties, fans gathered inside Olsen Field to watch Texas A&M University take on McNeese State University.

Texas A&M Alumni, Tyler Crone, said no matter what the weather looked like, he would always be there to support his favorite team.

”Cold baseball right now, but hopefully we get a lot of hot baseball towards the end of the year,” said Crone.

While the temperature might have been a bit chilly, it didn’t stop fans from coming out and enjoying the game.

Texas A&M student, Hayden Degeyter attended both Friday and Saturday’s game.

“It’s a little cold this morning but we’re having a good time watching the Aggies win, 15-0 last night and hopefully it can repeat today,” said Degeyter.

Those dedicated fans showed their spirit as loudly as they could, the way Aggies do, coming together to sing the Aggie War Hymn.

The Aggie Baseball team is currently ranked #8 in D1 baseball.

“Schlossnagle has put in a great staff, pitching staff is deep. I know the hype has been around a lot of guys that can throw some gas, there’s a lot of big bats in the lineup. This might be the best team we’ve seen for Aggie Baseball. The future looks good for us so we’re excited for the season,” said Crone.

Fans are expecting a good season this year.

“I think it’s Omaha or bust so hopefully we can get the bubbles back to Omaha,” said Crone.

“Hopefully we go to the playoffs. I want to see if we can go far, we have a good team here, a bunch of big guys, pretty nice. I had a conversation with the right fielder last night so it was pretty fun,” said Degeyter.

The Aggie Baseball team will go on to play a total of 55 games this season, 35 of those at home.
