Let the good times roll at The Remnant of Nawlins
BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – One of the biggest parties of the year is Tuesday.
Mardi Gras, a.k.a. Fat Tuesday, is a celebration full of culture, food and fun in New Orleans one day before the start of Lent.
“It’s a joyous occasion,” Korey Thomas said. ” It’s culture, it’s rich, it’s just uplifting and it’s inspiring to our community.”
Thomas is the owner of The Remnant of Nawlins in Byran. Since 2014, he’s been giving the community a taste of the New Orleans and Mardi Gras experience.
The restaurant owner said his mother-in-law inspired him to cook, so he keeps her legacy alive through the restaurant.
“We want to show the love, we want to show the hospitality, we want to touch them with the food and basically present that culture so that way, it could seem like they’re experiencing New Orleans even though they haven’t left the BCS,” Thomas said.
Thomas serves dishes including sausage po’ boys, camellia beans & rice, seafood gumbo and boudin balls. All of these are popular in New Orleans, especially during Mardi Gras while people are on the move, according to Thomas.
“There’s great food everywhere, but it’s just something about what I was raised on in New Orleans,” Thomas said.
Thomas is celebrating Mardi Gras at the restaurant Tuesday. It’s located at 1416 Groesbeck Street in Bryan, and it opens at 11 a.m.
“Come out and celebrate with us,” Thomas said. “We’re going to have a good time.”
