Bryan woman arrested for fentanyl-laced pills
BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) -Bryan police say 24-year-old Casey Ann Sharp of Bryan is being held on $40,000 bond for the manufacture/delivery of drugs, as well as other fines and charges for possession.
Sharp was arrested Saturday at the Motel 6 in Bryan during a check of the property.
Bryan police say she had a gram of fentanyl, five blue tablets, as well as a warrant out of College Station. Pills were tested by DPS after a prior arrest in October, and the results came back positive for fentanyl and meth.
Police say Sharp’s cell phone then had a picture of 95 of these pills, advertised for sale at $10 each.
According to Texas Health and Human Services, five Texans die every day on average from fentanyl poisoning.
The DEA says drug networks are mass-producing fake pills, falsely marketing them as legitimate prescription pills.
In 2023, the DEA says it seized more than 78.4 million fentanyl-laced fake pills and nearly 12,000 pounds of fentanyl powder.
Texas Health and Human Services reports more than 2,000 fentanyl deaths in 2022.
This past September, Texas House Bill 6 went into effect which allows for murder charges for those convicted of giving someone a fatal dose of fentanyl.
The DEA says two milligrams of fentanyl is considered a potentially lethal dose.
