Texas Lawmakers push for answers from USPS about delivery issues

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Lawmakers from Texas continue to push the United States Postal Service about delivery issues across the state.

This week, Congressman Michael McCaul from the Brazos Valley and Senator John Cornyn from Texas sent a letter to the Postmaster General expressing their concerns. The lawmakers say they have received multiple reports from constituents who have experienced delays.

It’s believed these delays are caused by failure to implement new processing technology. They are calling for more public transparency to affected customers.

Their letter said in part, “Our constituents depend on USPS to carry out these services in a timely and efficient manner. When this mission cannot be completed, customer service representatives must be available to address the issue, and the agency must be transparent regarding delays or changes in services.

Now, McCaul and Cornyn are calling on USPS to answer a series of questions including what resources have been allocated to address the delays, and are asking officials to confirm the main cause of the delays was the new technology.

Part of the letter also had to do with concerns specifically within the City of College Station.

USPS recently notified several apartment complexes in the city that they are changing delivery services to apartments identified as student housing. Mail will be delivered in bulk to a designated representative of the school, rather than each individual resident. But the letter points out, these complexes are not owned or associated with Texas A&M.

Now, the lawmakers are calling on the postal service for more answers. They want to know how the decision was made to classify certain apartments as student housing. They also want to confirm this will not lead to additional delays for residents.
