DPS: Motorcyclist reached 167 mph before arrest in Bryan

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – A Bryan man is in jail following a high-speed pursuit that reached speeds of 167 mph on Monday, according to a DPS report.

Troopers first tried stopping Matthew Lee Dennis, 29, of Bryan on Highway 6 after he was spotted speeding near Woodville Road.

Dennis reportedly refused to stop and led troopers on a pursuit from Highway 6 to FM 2818 to Beck Street where the trooper was able to push the motorcycle over with this patrol vehicle.

Dennis allegedly tried to run after being thrown from the bike but was arrested.

Troopers say during the pursuit Dennis came close to colliding with other vehicles including a school bus.

The arrest report says Dennis had meth when he was taken into custody.

He remains in jail on Tuesday charged with evading arrest, possession of a controlled substance, and reckless driving.

On Sunday, another motorcyclist was arrested in a separate incident for reportedly doing 120 mph on Highway 6 while attempting to flee law enforcement.
