Congressman Michael McCaul talks border security on Brazos Valley This Morning
BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Details have not been released but lawmakers are said to be finalizing a bipartisan immigration deal.
President Joe Biden says it’s been in the works for several months.
Congressman Michael McCaul was on Brazos Valley This Morning to discuss his recent bipartisan trip to the Texas/Mexico border that included a visit to Mexico City.

“We met with the president of Mexico and the Foreign Affairs minister. I think for the first time they’re recognizing there’s a problem,” said McCaul. “They see it as not only our problem but but theirs.”
McCaul said they discussed working toward a common response and trade and commerce.
“They’re our number one trading partner but we also talked about screening at the ports of entry, maybe looking at the southern border of Mexico and Guatemala, which is only 180 miles versus over 2,000 miles we have to secure. I’d rather, you know, push the border out rather than deal with it on the 1-yard line on our goal line, right? That’s a good football analogy. So we talked about various security measures. We could take down the southern tip to seal off the migration, cause it’s not really Mexicans crossing, it’s Central Americans.”
