Bryan police say death listed as murder believed to be caused by drugs
BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Bryan Police say an elderly death Friday night is being investigated as murder due to changes in the law.
Officers told KBTX that an elderly man was found dead Friday night along with a presence and history of drugs.
A new Texas law requires deaths possibly involving fentanyl to be investigated as a homicide. Bryan Police said aside from drugs at the residence, they did not find anything suspicious and they are waiting for toxicology results.
The bill went into effect September 1, 2023. The goal of this legislation was to increase the criminal penalty for those illegally providing fentanyl.
