Take a dog for the day with new program from Aggieland Humane Society

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – If you’ve always wanted the companionship of a dog, but for whatever reason your circumstances won’t allow it, there‘s a new program from Aggieland Humane Society called Dog Day Out.

The program is completely free to anyone over 18.

“You can just sign up online. You don’t have to pay a fee or anything,” Executive Director Katrina Ross said. “You can come in and take [the dog] on a field trip for the day.”

Ross said the participant picks the dog up in the morning from the shelter and returns the dog by 4 p.m. the same day.

Ross said humane societies across the country have had programs similar to this one and thought it would work well in our area.

You can sign up on the Humane Society’s website, you’ll also find a manual to help best guide what to do with the dog when you have them. Dogs taken on Dog Day Out will all be available for adoption.

Ross said studies have shown the importance of getting dogs out of a shelter setting and how it has a positive impact when they get adopted.
