Focus at Four: Congressman McCaul on regional and international issues
BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – There are a number of issues in Washington right now and some big developments right here at home.
The U.S. Representative for the 10th district Congressman Michael McCaul joined KBTX Thursday to discuss the Texas-Mexico border, an impeachment hearing for the Homeland Security Secretary and Texas A&M leading an initiative to advance space operations.
Yesterday was the first impeachment hearing for Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, and McCaul said he has an obligation to make a change in leadership.
McCaul went on to say that he will be leading a Texas delegation to the border and Mexico City next week to discuss what’s happening and what the Mexican government can do to work on the issue. The bipartisan deal for policy changes regarding border security fell through recently, but McCaul said he is optimistic about coming to an agreement.
“I hope we’re getting closer to the deal on this. We have to fund the government and keep it open. But the key to that is to get some strong border security policy change,” said McCaul.
Recently, the U.S. Space Force chose Texas A&M to take the helm on a project for space operations. McCaul says that not only the university, but the economy in the surrounding areas will benefit from this new development.
“This is the most exciting thing I’ve been working on since I’ve started to represent the Brazos Valley and Texas A&M,” said McCaul.
