Popular fictional character taking center stage at A&M Consolidated High School
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – A&M Consolidated High School’s fine arts department is kicking off the year with a familiar story.
It’s presenting “The Lighting Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical” starting Thursday at the AMCHS auditorium.
The musical was inspired by the best-selling book “The Lightning Thief” by Rick Riordan.
Jackson discovers he’s the half-blood son of a Greek god and must navigate his powers and a destiny he doesn’t want.
“At least half of the show is him trying to figure out which God he’s a child of, so even more he feels left out,” director Emily Ramos said.
While Jackson figures out who he really is, he goes on a journey with friends to find Zeus’ master’s missing lighting bolt to prevent a war between the gods.
“It’s a really fun show,” Ramos said.
The director said this is a show for everyone. It includes special effects, a huge battle scene featuring the whole cast and mythological creatures.
The musical also features a lot of fun music and a live band, according to Ramos.
“It has some ballads, so you have some goofy characters who have these heartfelt, emotional ballads,” Ramos said. “All the characters, in their own way, have a coming of age. They each have a song where they’re just pouring their heart out about whatever their issue is.”
“The Lighting Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical” starts Thursday and runs to Saturday.
