Billy’s Grille & Bar shares mocktail recipes for Dry January
BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – There’s a January challenge that’s reported to have several health benefits. It’s “Dry January,” and it’s a commitment to not drink for the month.
It can also be the start of weaning off alcohol for a longer period.
Experts say some of the benefits that come from the challenge include improving sleep, increasing energy, clearing skin, prompting weight loss, strengthening the immune system and lowering anxiety.
If you’re in on the challenge, there are several drink recipes to make it fun.
Below are some from Billy’s Grille & Bar in downtown Bryan.
Pineapple Sunrise
In a mason jar, fill with ice and equal parts pineapple and orange juice until full.
Once full, take a bar spoon and sink about two seconds worth of grenadine to the bottom of the glass.
Give mocktail a soft stir or two.
Garnish with a cherry on a cocktail pick and a orange slice.
Mockjito
In a shaker, add four to seven mint leaves and muddle. Then equal 1.5 ounces of lime juice and simple syrup.
Shake contents, strain onto ice in a tall glass.
Garnish with a lime and mint.
(For strawberry, add 1 ounce of strawberry syrup to the glass before adding remaining ingredients.)
Mockarita
In a shaker, add 1 ounce of lime juice, 1 ounce agave, .5 ounces orange juice, .5 ounce of sweet and sour.
Shake and dump into a salt-rimmed glass (tall or short), top with equal parts soda water and Sprite.
For different flavors, add 1 ounce flavoring to glass before the remaining contents.
Non-Alcoholic Bloody Mary
In a shaker, add ice, lemon juice, about an ounce of lime juice, Worcestershire Sauce and Zing Zang. If you like spice, you can add Tabasco sauce or whatever hot sauce you like along with Tajin.
Shake the contents, drain onto ice in a tall salted-rim glass. Top with more Zing Zang if needed. Garnish with limes and bacon.
