Precautionary lockdown lifted at Brenham High School after law enforcement search area
BRENHAM, Texas (KBTX) – Brenham High School went into lockdown around 3:40 p.m., Thursday, according to a post on the district’s Facebook page.
Authorities requested the school go into lockdown as a precautionary measure as they “worked through a community safety issue.” Law enforcement later determined there was no gunman or gun in or near the high school.
A release from the Brenham Police Department said local agencies were notified of a “possible suicidal subject near the school with a firearm.” Multiple agencies, along with School Resource Officers checked all buildings on campus, according to police.
“Out of precaution for student and staff safety, due to the call type and the person reportedly being in the vicinity of the school Brenham High School was placed in lockdown,” according to the release.
Police say the subject of the search was not located, but they will continue investigating.
“We appreciate their diligence in keeping us informed of the situation and the thoroughness of their precautionary measures they took to keep our kids and staff safe,” the district’s statement said.
Along with the Brenham Police Department, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Texas Department of Public Safety, Blinn College Police Department, and Washington County Constable Officers responded to the situation.
