100+ tires stolen from Brazos Valley construction companies

BRAZOS VALLEY, Texas (KBTX) – Almost 100 tires were stolen in the last two weeks from TexCon and TexCrete‘s trucks in Robertson and Montgomery counties. In response, Brazos County Crime Stoppers is stepping in to help.

On July 28, 62 tires were stolen from TexCrete trucks in Montgomery County. On August 4, 30 tires were stolen from the TexCon location in Robertson County.

These thefts took place strategically in the night. In both cases front gate locks were stolen, security cameras were disabled, and lug nuts were left on the ground. These tires were new and on the vehicles when the theft took place.

“They were able to come in, evade the security cameras, cut the power and during the night were able to steal all the tires. When my employees showed up Monday morning the trucks were there jacked up on stumps with no tires,” said Mike Price, general manager of TexCrete.

Drivers showed up to work but their trucks were out of commission.

“Unfortunately when they come in in the morning and we have stuff scheduled and they are ready to go to work, well they can’t even use their equipment to go to work,” Price shared.

Robertson County Chief Deputy with the Sheriff’s Office (RCSO), Bill Ruland, told KBTX this wasn’t the only construction company that had tires stolen.

“There’s some similar situations in Grimes County and Waller County as well,” revealed Dep. Chief Ruland. “We’re in touch with those law enforcement agencies to try and piece together where this is happening.”

The vice president of TexCon, Spencer Buchanan, said for this business, it adds up fast when they’re replacing tires and missing out on jobs.

“It’s a major setback whenever they’re delayed and we are having to rush to try and get this figured out, and not to mention the financial burden on us to get it back to where it needs to be,” Buchanan listed.

Not only does this impact the two companies, but the other businesses and people those companies work with as well.

“It interrupts the flow of transportation of goods to build roads and pour concrete, and also some of these other companies are smaller and they can’t absorb losses like that,” explained Dep. Chief Ruland.

TexCon offered a $5,000 reward to anyone with information leading to the arrest and conviction of a responsible party. Later, Brazos County Crime Stoppers decided to join the Robertson County Sheriff’s Office to help the local businesses.

Brazos County Crime Stoppers said it wanted to share the news, “In an effort to help our neighbors and to prevent future similar incidents.” Crime Stoppers said it would pay out the $5,000 reward if it receives information leading to an arrest.
